Murals and posters can be fantastic ways to spread strong messaging and transform spaces so they reflect the strength of community stories. I work with organizations, schools and campaigns to facilitates an idea generation process that ensures the art is rich with specificity, power and the spirit of each group. I work closely with each person featured in the art so their portrait accurately expresses their vision and intention. Creative Strategy & Cultural Organizing

Movements and mission driven organizations demand a huge array of strategic tools. Art fortifies relationships, activates our imagination and generates the kind of life giving joy that is essential to prevent burn out. My experience includes:

Abolitionist Arts Integration Curriculum & Workshops

Principles of abolition can assist us to unpack the world in a way that aligns with self determination and whole expression. Art successfully invites students, neighbors, colleagues and friends to see ourselves in the story and write, draw, speak our dreams into the future.

Whether you’re planning high school curriculum or trying to facilitate conversations grappling with accountability models outside of punishment, art integration supports rich experiences and generative collaboration.

Kate has experience teaching k-12 & loves collaborating with art educators to dream up ways to expand the possibilities of their curriculum.

Part of my creative process has been the work of excavating and investigating the ways in which colonization and whiteness inform my vision and can destroy creativity. This is abolition, anti-racism and important community building amongst white people committed to ending the delusion of white supremacy. I speaks regularly about this process and am committed to working with white people to address white socialization and how to grow toward collective liberation and solidarity by walking toward the truth of the legacy white people carry.

Portraits for Counter Narrative

Changing narratives requires producing imagery that illustrates what we know is true and are working to actualize more broadly. Portraits that clearly articulate the values of our movements and who we identify as leaders and visionaries in opposition to the systems forced upon us are part of our rise and resistance. I cherish the opportunity to work with people to create portraits!

Art for No Reason Workshops

I love inventing ways for people who aren’t super confident making art, to be able to create with confidence and want to bring home what they made. Prison is an imagination problem and nursing our dried up imaginations back to life is a liberation practice that is exceptionally important in heavy times. Wanna fall over laughing and re-learn how to troubleshoot til it’s play? Let’s go! Big group events or teeny friend engagements, all welcome.
